How to Warm Up a New Domain: The 4-Week Plan That Actually Works

Sending from a fresh domain on day one is the fastest way to get flagged. Follow this week-by-week warmup plan instead.

A brand-new domain has zero sending reputation. Mailbox providers watch new senders closely: sudden volume spikes look exactly like spam. Warmup is the process of gradually building trust — small volumes, real engagement, consistent patterns.

Week 1: Foundation (10–20 emails/day)

Send only to people you know will engage — colleagues, friends, existing customers. Ask them to reply, not just open. Replies are the strongest positive signal you can generate. Keep every email personal and plain-text.

Week 2: Ramp (20–40 emails/day)

Double the volume but keep engagement high. This is a good time to start an automated warmup tool, which exchanges emails with a network of real inboxes that open, reply, and rescue your emails from spam automatically.

Week 3: First Campaigns (40–80 emails/day)

Begin small, highly-targeted cold campaigns — 30 to 50 prospects per day, max. Watch your open rates and spam complaints like a hawk. If opens dip below 40%, pause and let the domain rest for two days.

The Golden Rule

Never increase daily volume by more than 2x in a single week. Reputation builds slowly and collapses fast — one reckless blast can set you back to week one.

Week 4+: Scale With Guardrails

Once you are consistently above 50% opens with near-zero bounces, you can scale toward 100–200 emails per day per inbox. For bigger volume, add more inboxes or secondary domains rather than pushing one domain harder.
